The Singing Winds:  Storytelling from Around the World project is now incorporated as a not-for-profit organization!

The initial Board of Directors will be Nadine Myers-Guilloteau, Parent Coordinator at PS 230 serving as President; Jacqueline Reinier, Singing Winds Project Director serving as Treasurer; and Cynthia Fortozo, Cultural Advisor and Teaching Artist serving as Secretary.

Thank you to everyone who has supported Singing Winds since its inception in 2011.  We are so excited to enter this new chapter of our story!

The Lions and Dragons Dance

The Singing Winds presents “The Lions and Dragons Dance” featuring the PS 230 Lion Dancers and Puppeteers.

2013 is the Year of the Snake!  Come celebrate the Lunar New Year with shadow puppets, Lion Dancing, and stories from China.  Narrated by fourth grade students at      PS 230, this special evening of folktales and martial arts will introduce you to legends and traditional customs associated with this ancient celebration.

Recommended for all ages!

Hajitek Majitek

The Singing Winds presents “Hajitek Majitek” featuring Hafida Torres, Jill Reinier and Gnawa Maalem Said Damir.

Come hear the stories and music of Marrakesh!  Hear the tale of Haina and her brother, who transformed into animals and back again.  Find out what happened to the four little goats when the wolf learned to speak in their mother’s voice.  Revel in the sounds of Gnawa music filled with percussive energy and the sweet melodies of the hajhuj.

Recommended for all ages, this program features traditional costumes, music, folklore, and crafts.  Stories will be told in Arabic with English translation.
